Harrowden Turf - Planting for Pollinators
Our countryside has suffered from a dramatic reduction in wildflowers which has had a knock-on effect for insects, birds and pollinators. But with 183 different wildflowers available on our website you can make a difference. Available as ‘ready to go mats’, bulbs, plugs, plants or seeds you can easily mix ’n’ match, add to your garden or begin a brand new wildflower project. The benefits come in all shapes and sizes. More colour, more pollinators, more birds, more variety, more height and depth and of course, as annuals or perennials; flowers or grasses.
Installing a green roof
A living green roof consists of layers of materials that all work together seamlessly to protect your waterproofing, insulate your building and nurture the plants. You will need: strong scissors, sharp knife, sturdy boots, gardening gloves, a head for heights, somebody to help you, lifting gear – to get everything on to the roof – and anything else that your site manager insists upon. Never ever compromise on safety.

Harrowden - green roof solutions
A living green roof is a wonderful thing. It’s great for wildlife, lowers the carbon footprint of a building, preserves the waterproofing and looks amazing. The design, the build-up and the planting plan need to be bespoke to the building and the way the roof develops over time is different in every case. If they are designed, installed and maintained properly, these roofs are pretty much self-sustaining. They’re not normally walked on apart from essential inspections and maintenance visits. Substrate depth can be anything from 20mm on a lightweight sedum roof to 150mm on a wildflower roof. In general, the deeper the substrate the higher the installation cost but the greater the benefits.

Premium Turf

Jubilee Turf is our best seller and for good reason. It creates a luxurious yet hard wearing lawn to help any garden reach its full potential.

Meadowmat Wildflower Turf

The speedy way to create a wildlife-friendly patch in your garden. Each variety of Meadowmat Wildflower Turf is a colourful mix of flowering plants and grasses. They all grow strongly on our proven matting system. Wild flowers can be notoriously difficult to establish in a garden – but not if you use our Meadowmat Wildflower Turf.

Harrowden Insect Habitat

Bug houses are man-made structures designed to mimic the natural habitats and nesting spots of beneficial insects. They serve as safe havens for various insect species, offering shelter, protection from predators, and a place to lay eggs.

Enviromat Sedum Flat Roof Kit

Green Roofing is becoming more and more mainstream. Architects, garden designers, property developers and householders are working to improve eco-efficiency and to combat the effects of climate change. There are a plethora of benefits associated with a green or sedum roof, not least that it creates a real talking point. Enviromat®’s green roof kit comes with everything you need to turn your standard, dull space into a delightful green roof, full of plants and flowers. Within the kit there are several components. First of all, is a root barrier to make sure the plants cannot damage your waterproofing. Next comes a layer of specially engineered drainage mat to protect against damage to the sedum roof and building. This is because green roof sedums dislike wet conditions. This matting ensures that excess water is wicked away from the roots, keeping your flat green roof secure and healthy. Last but by no means least is your Enviromat® sedum roof

Enviromat Pitched Roof Kit

Each of our green roof kits, designed for pitched roofs, comes with the main ingredients that you need to transform your gently sloping roof into a true green sedum roof. Each kit contains a root barrier to protect your waterproofing from any potential root damage, as well as a living carpet of gorgeous hardy sedum plants. From the moment you unroll Enviromat® Sedum Matting your roof will be carpeted with vegetation. Every single one of the sedum mats we use in our Enviromat® sedum roof kits is seeded with up to 17 different types of sedum which have been nurtured outdoors in our nursery for at least 9 – 12 months.

Meadowmat Wildflower Seed Mixes

Cottage Garden Meadowmat® creates flower beds and borders with the grace and charm of an old fashioned English garden but with a lot less work. Cottage Garden is mainly created using perennial plant species. These are plants that will grow back year after year, as long as they enjoy the conditions in your garden. So, look after your garden and match the wildflower turf to the soil, shade and water conditions you have. The mix also includes some annual and bi-annual flowering species. Some give a pop of colour while the perennials are blooming and some are there just because of their sheer beauty. However, not all of the flowers will appear every year but when they do, you’ll realise why Cottage Garden is such a good choice.

Screened Topsoil

Our topsoil is of the highest quality, carefully produced, free draining and fertile. As leading UK turf suppliers, we know that topsoil is essential to a healthy lawn. Consequently, ours is classed as grade 1. Only 2.5% of UK soils can claim that. Our bulk bags are screened to 20mm. The range of smaller bags of Lawn Soil that we supply can be used to improve existing soil throughout your garden, but can also be used as a high-quality top dressing. On top of this, our topsoil can be used to brush into cracks to help retain moisture and prevent shrinkage. It will strengthen the overall health of your garden and improve the quality of your turf.
